Changing people, transforming lives

One of the cornerstones of the Co-Active® model is that you focus on the whole person, not just one particular part of their life. People aren't compartmentalized. They are multi-faceted and dynamic, and the model allows you to work with whatever topic your client chooses. Whether a client wants to get coached on board meeting challenges, career development, or relationships, you will be equipped to do so effectively. You learn to coach anyone on anything with the confidence that you are supported by the most flexible and proven model in the coaching world. The model is the foundation of the training and is used throughout the workshops. The courses in Amsterdam will be delivered in English and the courses in Zeist will be delivered in Dutch.

The Co-Active® Progam consists of three parts:

  • Fundamentals
  • Intermediate
  • Certification

Program

Program

Training days

The fundamentals workshop is a 2.5 day course. On the second evening of the workshop you will be requested to have a practical coaching conversation (by telephone) regarding a specific subject, with someone you know either work related or privately. This will take about one hour of your time and the next morning the results of this coaching conversation will be evaluated in triads.

Since this program is based on a daily rate, you are not obliged to stay at the venue for the night. But you are free to stay in the hotel. If you would like to book one or more overnight stays at the venue and/or dinners, please contact the venue directly. Schouten & Nelissen will not book your overnight stays and/or dinners.

Workshop 1:

  • Day one from 1.30 PM till 5.30 PM (no lunch included)
  • Day two from 9.30 AM till 5.30 PM (lunch included)
  • Day three from 9.30 AM till 5.30 PM (lunch included)
Subject

Fundamentals

The full Co-Active Coach Training Program integrates three foundational principles that help the coaching client enhance both the quality and results they experience in life and work. The conversation about these principles: Fulfillment, Balance, and Process begins in the Fundamentals course. At the end of the 2,5 day course you will have a very clear idea just how coaching might fit into your (working) life.

Group size

Participants

The maximum group size for the training course is 26 participants.

Certificate

Accreditation

The International Coach Federation (ICF), established in 1995, is the worldwide leader dedicated to advancement of the coaching profession through specifying high standards, providing independent certification and developing a global network of credentialed coaches.

Certificate

At the end of the Fundamentals workshop you will receive a certificate which shows that you participated in a 18.75 hours ICF accredited training program. This certificate gives access to Intermediate, the next level of this Co-Active Coaching training. If you are absent for more than one hour during Fundamentals, the Coaches Training Institute practises the rule that you do not qualify for the certificate and cannot participate in the Intermediate programme. The leaders have the authority to make exceptions to this rule.

Mastery

The Co-Active Coach® Certification Program is a rigorous six-month virtual program in English combining hands-on coaching, ongoing group work and one-on-one supervision. After successful completion of the program, students are eligible to take the written and oral certification exam, with the goal of becoming a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach® (CPCC). When you register for Certification it is possible to ask CTI for a Supervisor who speaks for example Dutch, German, French or Spanish.

Su Mee on Co-Active Coaching

Su Mee Tan (39) is always keen to help people. She tries to do so in the IT department where she works, although opportunities are often limited. For some time, Su Mee has been trying to establish a better work-life balance, to discover what she really wants to do in life. She therefore contacted a coach who has helped her find a solution: having discovered that she wants to be a coach herself, Su Mee is now taking the Co-Active Coaching course while continuing to work in IT part-time.

Anyone wishing to become a coach can choose between several courses. At first sight, all appear very similar. They teach you how to help other people achieve personal growth or to restructure their lives. If you examine the courses in more detail, however, some important differences emerge. Anyone with the desire to become a coach generally faces a difficult choice. Su Mee Tan is the exception: she did not find the decision at all difficult.

No hesitation

‘I immediately opted for the Co-Active Coaching programme,’ she explains. ‘One reason is that I had a Co-Active Coach. In fact, I still do. I think she is wonderful. It was a study advisor at Schouten & Nelissen who gave me the final nudge. She was extremely enthusiastic about Co-Active Coaching and gave me all the information I needed. It felt right.’

Unique in the Netherlands

I enrolled with Schouten & Nelissen, which is the only training organization in the Netherlands to offer courses in Co-Active Coaching. I signed up for two courses: Co-Active Coaching Fundamentals, followed by Co-Active Intermediate. This not only showed commitment but entitled me to a discount. A nice bonus.’

Having completed the first two courses, I started on the intensive but inspiring programme which would lead to CPCC certification. That will make me a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach. In the meantime I have set up my own coaching business, Into The Mirror Coaching.’

Head and heart

‘One key characteristic of a Co-Active Coach is that he focuses on the entire person and not on one particular problem. He helps his clients to strike the balance between head and heart. This is important because it enables them to make well-considered choices. They can take both the rational and the emotional aspects into consideration and doing so provides extra motivation. They will be more inclined to act than those who do not understand the reasons for their choices, or those who allow other people to make their choices for them.’

One team

‘Another key characteristic of Co-Active Coaching is ‘Co-Creation’. This means that coach and client are equal partners. They work together as a team. The coach is confident that the client can achieve the stated goals and has the strength needed to do so. If the client does not share that confidence, the coach can apply various techniques to help him find the necessary strength. This is something we experienced and practised ourselves during the course.’

Dare to talk

‘One of the techniques you may need relates to getting the client to talk freely. There may be something he is holding back, such as a strong emotional response. You have to be able to broach the topic and encourage him to open up. This is something else we practised during the course, both in groups and in one-to-one situations. We then received feedback from both the trainers and our fellow students, which I found particularly valuable.’

Positive approach

‘I like the Co-Active Coaching approach because it takes such a positive outlook, just as I always try to do. Looking back, I think it’s fair to say that Co-Active Coaching has changed my life. I can make more reasoned choices, I focus more on the positive side of every situation, and I am more willing to rely on my own intuition. I’m not the only one to benefit: so do my family and everyone else around me. Everything is more positive!’
